Shawnee's Bates City BBQ

The 3 nimrods are still searching for the perfect KC BBQ. This week we tried Bates City BBQ oddly enough not in Bates City but in Shawnee Kansas. Easy to find on Quivira near Shawnee mission parkway with plenty of parking. Each of the nimrods ordered the mixed plate with choice of two meats plus two bones. The onion rings were great! And I also enjoyed their sauces. I'm not a real big rib guy but everyone agreed that the ribs were the best thing on the plate including me, if you like tender fall off the bone ribs this is foryou. The brisket and burnt ends were a bit dry even slathered in sauce. The sports decor was fun and the dining room was comfortable.

Love the food for taste, but I'm not a fan of "fall off the bone" ribs. For me, ribs need to have a little pull and chew, but that's just my opinion. Meat was good without sauce, but sauce was very good too if you like that on your meat. Price can't be beat on Thursdays! I'll be back.

We tried the Saturday special of unoriginal burnt ends!!!!! They rivaled any burnt ends in the city!!!! They give a huge order of fries and the bbq sauce was amazing!! Service was top notch! Way to go Bate's City BBQ!!!
