I bought some food from Revival Barbecue back in September. I meant to do this review earlier but something else always came up. First, let me say I enjoyed conversing with the owner, Cecil. He was very personable and I enjoyed talking with him and hearing about his entrepreneurial endeavors. My Order I ordered a couple of things from the menu. I ordered the roast pork cheesesteak, the macaroni & cheese, the chicken wings, the cheesecake and I was given some complimentary cornbread. My Review: The Brisket Cheesesteak: The brisket cheesesteak was flavorful, the meat was very tender and flavorful however, I won't be buying it again. Maybe, I'm being unrealistic, but as a consumer, I feel the amount of food should be proportionate to the cost of the food and in this instance it wasn't. The brisket cheesesteak was $17 (must me an old menu listed) and I feel that it should have been a much bigger roll with more meat. The Cheesecake: The cheesecake was very good and just like I like it very dense. I'm not a fan of fluffy cheesecake. The side portion of berries was good as well. I only added a smidgen of berries because I prefer my cheesecake plain aka without sauce. The Maplestuffed Cornbread: The cornbread was good. The maple added a unique flavor. The Smoked Gouda Macaroni The smoked gouda & macaroni was good. I'd add more gouda cheese though. The more cheese the better! The Wings The chicken was very good. The brining and smoking of the wings added a unique flavor which tastes even better after letting them sit for a day. I'm sure you noticed that I didn't call them chicken wings and that's because they weren't wings, they were portions of a chicken wing. I did ask specifically before buying and Cecil did told me "We don't do wing-dings". Therefore, I assumed I was going to receive 6 whole chicken wings. Imagine my profound disappointment when instead I received 6 pieces of chicken that were NOT whole wings. Instead of whole wings I received 4 drumettes and 2 wingettes/flats which in essence ARE wing-dings. If a eatery is going to offer chicken portions instead of whole wings, they should be clear about that in the menu description. Believe me, had I known I wouldn't be getting 6 whole wings I wouldn't have ordered the chicken at all. To clarify, when I buy chicken wings, I want the WHOLE wing which consists of the drumette, wingette and the the tip. I can't speak for anyone else but I eat my chicken wings in a specific order; I eat the tip first, then the drumette and save the wingette for last. Therefore, I won't be buying any more "wings" from Revival Barbecue no matter how delicious they are. However, if Revival Barbecue decides to do whole wings instead of just chicken pieces I'd be more than happy to mosey on down to buy some "real" chicken wings. In spite of my disappointment about some of the portions/pieces of certain menu items. I wish the owner, Cecil much success in all his future endeavors.

I REALLY enjoyed Rivivals atmosphere and vibe. The DJ in the lounge on Thursday night killed it, the Amarillio was delicious, and the owner is very vibrant and good with people. HOWEVER, if you're a BBQ snob (like many of us Kansas City natives) then tone down your expectations a bit for this spot in particular. My friends and I ordered a couple of different things so we could experience as much as the menu had to offer as possible between the 3 of us. We'd rate the food about a 6/10 BUT the smoked cheesecake with the sauce easily gets a 8/10. If you're a lover of cheesecake then this is def worth a try when you visit.

The brisket cheesesteak was so good, even my cat was in a food coma! If this was the last sandwich I ever ate, I could die happy. The hibiscus lemonade was divine! My only extremely minor criticism is that they were a bit too heavy on the ice. Revival might just be my go-to place for this year!
